I purchased this as a Kindle Book and it is a really good read, The Civil War by Frederic L Paxson deals somewhat with the reasons why the war took place, which should be a question anyone who trys to understand the War would want to think about.I like the Kindle format, if the books work as they should, this one does, so you can bookmark your last page read, shutdown the Kindle then on reopening the pad, well there you are right back on the civil war page you left last. Mr Paxson gives a good account of the event leading up to the war and does cover the battles just not a blow by blow account of the chronology of the events. A very rewarding read. Having visited the southeast and currently living in the Deep Ole South, it is amazing how much Civil War history there is remembered here as if the Southern States are Stuck and Never leaving it behind. Other States I have lived do not dwell on their War Past, like the Deep South does. The book was a welcome addition to my Civil War library on my Kindle, as there are many books that are free and can be downloaded without effort. Excellent reading for a civil war buff. He really enjoys books of this nature, keep them coming at an affordable price, which is as low as you go!

Excellent reading for a civil war buff. He really enjoys books of this nature, keep them coming at an affordable price.
Book was interesting, but I don't know if readers need to read page after page of how a .58 caliber round can take off your head. Also, the author seems to wander into liberal comment in a number of areas involving present day issues. Sticking to the facts would have made this a better read.
This was a very informative and I educational book. Having traveled in the east and southeast I could envision the battle lines
Having vacationed in the southeast, it is amazing how much Civil War history there was that i missed or merely forgot from school classes. The book was a welcome addition to my reading device.
I enjoyed this work on the civil war because it looked at the Civil War, not through the battles as much as the reasons behind the struggle. The book covered what led up to the war and how the south was mostly and agra-culture society and the north the industry-culture. How the south held on as long as it did without the man power or the financial base that the north enjoyed. How the north could replace everything it lost almost immediately and how the south , with every lose becoming weaker and more hard pressed to continue the struggle. Very enjoyable read.
This is an interesting take on this causes of the Civil War. The author addresses sectional differences from an economical and political standpoint. "In the conduct of their affairs they showed weaknesses as well as the strength of their experience. They were essentially American whether they were right or wrong." The author also addresses factors that made the North and South different and how those factors led to the war. This book held my interest.
The book has many places where the translation to the digital format did not work well. These errors, while annoying can be worked through. If I had not done extensive reading about the Civil war, the leaders and the battles, I would not realize the extent of these events and persons by reading this book. OK read just to get a different view on the same events, Slides over much on each topic by just mentioning them in reference to some other event.
